sold 2 paintings yesterday!
yesterday, i sold this painting and another unphotographed painting called The Disco Queen (en rouge). My camera is currently destroyed, so when I get a new one, i'll be able to go and take a photo of the disco queen. i'm glad they are going to a good home where they will be well looked after. both of these paintings were recently hanging in our living room and are favorites of mine. uluru sunset is part of a nice little trilogy, so the other two are still here to keep us company. cheers.

mr. vertigo
this weekend i sorted almost all of my paintings into 2 categories: photographed and not-photographed. so this morning i spent about an hour photographing artwork while the light was good and before my camera battery died. it doesn't last as long as it used to. i got a good bit photographed but still have a ways to go.
mr. vertigo here is an old fav! a simple little drawing that i then painted in, but it makes me smile every time i see it. it's a small painting, 5" x 7". at one of my old apartments, i had a border of little paintings this size all around my bedroom.
at that time, i was going to do a painting a day for 365 days and all the size of this painting. i think i got to about 30 or so when i stopped. i think i might try again soon...

itsy bitsy painting
here's one of the little canvases i was talking about in an earlier post... blue sharpie outline of the hairdryer chair with a yellow thumb print. the silver paint makes it look like it was painted on duct tape, but it wasn't.

there are 12 canvases of various sizes ready to go in my studio right now. the first coat is drying as i don't usually like to start painting on a blank canvas.

first square
this was one of the first paintings that i ever did on a square canvas. i painted this about 3 years ago. i was really pleased with the finished product and as a result have painted almost everything since then on a square.

ACA Closed forever
here's the picture from the last day of ACA. in addition to the sign on the door, you can see:
the black sign next to the door where it says "atlanta college of art"
the green stripe on the wall - i love that green stripe!
and
the certificate of accomplishment photoshopped on top by al.
i also love that the sign is hand written with a complete lack of creativitiy, even that was gone. i would have written "store closed forever, no refunds or exchanges".
this blog template seems to cut off the right side of each photo, for now, you'll have to click on the photo to see the full shot.

the last day of (aca)
i sold this painting a few months ago and was just recently looking at this photo of it. i love the relationship between the 3 figures, the largest one in the back, half a head and confusing our space. the front figure hollow except her flat dress. the horizontal and darkness of the middle figure contrasting the vertical colors in the background.
as you can tell from the title, i painted this on the last day of aca. our community education class was technically the last class at the school. movers where already clearing out rooms and furniture. there was a sign on the school store that read "closed forever". the school was deserted and we were all very sad to leave. i guess i felt like all three of the figures, pensive, dark and hollow in a space that doesn't really exist (anymore).
i haven't painted much since then and i think i just needed a break. i was sad to see the end of the atlanta college of art. i miss it.

marco
my most recent self portrait. this one was done for the cd artwork and as wayne pointed out, it's the only one of the 20 portraits that has a realistic skin tone. i certainly didn't plan it that way, i just really like the green background. and the angular shape of my glasses. it looks like me on a day that i actually shaved!

470
470 works and counting. 30 more to reach my goal of 500 by year end.
the golden hike
one of my alltime favorite paintings! i had this in a show last year and was very very happy that it did not sell. i think i would have had serious separation anxiety if it had sold.

optimistically hopeless wayne
i recently did the artwork for the wayne fishell experiment's cd, optimistically hopeless. i painted a portrait of everyone who worked on the cd, 20 in all. seen here is wayne, half of the cover art for the cd. you can check them out at www.ofishell.com or on itunes! their music is fantastic and i think the paintings compliment it nicely. cheers!

this is one of my favorite paintings!
i chose this painting as my first attempt to post a blog from my flickr account. she is one of my favorite paintings and i had to leave her untitled to keep the mystery of her glare...
