here is my friend's mother. i really enjoyed painting this portrait, though it's not as strange as the portrait i did of paul, her husband. at least i painted the stranger of the two portraits first, so that anything could be expected for the second. that wasn't planned, but it worked out and i hope they this one as well!
enjoy.

surfer chicken

i've finished printing all the surfer chickens that could have multi-color and multi-stage printing. any future prints will just be the outline. time to work on some painting again, though i may do a linocut self portrait in the new year...
enjoy.

this surfer chicken was printed on the cover sheet to a pack of drawing paper. it might be my favorite of all the surfer chicken prints!

purple ace

purple ace, originally uploaded by marcofrey.

i painted this for some good friends. they had asked for something that would represent a particular situation and they gave me 3 colors. the rest was up to me. here's how i interpret the images:
the rectangular purple spiral could be an ace bandage as viewed from above, a window, or a footboard of a bed.
the strange purple figure is either a cat or a foot sticking out from under the covers.
next to the cat/foot: flowers
the bird doesn't represent anything and is there for fun and to balance the rest of the painting.
the stripes at the bottom could be a comforter on a bed.
everything else is just color.
enjoy.

i was having fun with this drawing today. i plan on eventually printing a surfer chicken on it, but until then....

i love little pussy

i love little pussy, originally uploaded by marcofrey.

this painting of cats was named after the old nursery rhyme:
i love little pussy
her coat is so warm,
and if i don't hurt her
she'll do me no harm.
so i'll not pull her tail,
nor drive her away
but pussy and i
very gently will play.
enjoy.

i've finally finished all the carving on my surfer chicken print. she is down to just an outline, seen here in black. i still have lots more chickens that still need the final print and i hope to get those done soon. this one here is printed on an old manilla folder - i enjoy recycling paper for printing, it makes each piece more unique and interesting.
enjoy.

the purple cape

i love fashion magazines! i cut out photos that i like from them and paste them into a sketchbook for future use. the photo that inspired this painting probably came from vogue, but i'm not really sure. and it doesn't really matter.
enjoy.

the dog show

i recently went to a dog show to watch my friend cheryl show her dog. I've been to many dog shows, but this was this first time that i wasn't helping groom or hold dogs, so i was able to have fun with my new camera. this was one of my favorite shots, cheryl and her irish setter.
enjoy.
