so i found this great photo in a magazine of this older woman dressed for mardi gras. i planned on sitting down and working for a while on this painting to really capture the image well. less than 10 minutes later i had this finished piece...

this painting was completely off my radar. i also discovered this one while at my friends' house photographing my works that they own. this was one of the very first paintings that i ever painted. my friend and i were roommates back then and i gave this to him at that time. that was maybe 12 or 13 years ago and he still has it. i'm so glad he still has it and that i was able to photograph it today. i ended up giving it the letter a instead of a number, since it completely predates my numbering system and cataloging efforts. it even has my old signature! it was a very fun find for me!

found! i thought this painting was lost - i had looked and looked through my studio and was never able to find it. then today, i went over to my friends' house to photograph my works that they own and they had this painting! i'm very happy that it's not lost, that it has a good home, and that i now have a photo of it!

i really enjoyed the last self portrait that i did on receipts, so i did another one, this time with a red background. this is me dressed up as french cher for our annual cher-o-ling event (look it up on the youtube, it's quite fun).

here's an old but fun painting... i remember not being able to get their heads just right with the paint, so i wiped them off and actually thought of leaving them headless but instead drew in their heads...

here's the newest new painting. it wasn't painted over an older painting. eula had the plant and the shape of the leaves really appealed to me. it was actually a non flowering plant with dark green leaves.

here's the newest old painting. it's the newest old painting because i painted over an older painting that i never really liked. for this version, i thinned the figure, painted the red spine, painted over the background and added the dried flowers... it's much nicer now, trust me.

another new painting... this one was very haphazard in how it became this person looking back over the house and landscape. then again, most of paintings just sort of happen like that.. i don't like to plan anything, i just start by putting some paint down and let it become something...

here's my latest self portrait - it's been a while since my last one and i wanted to do something a little different.. the background is made up of receipts from my recent purchases - i thought this would add a nice layer to a self portrait.
