here is my most recent painting. it is a portrait of a friend's father. she commissioned it. i've done several commissions in the past, but i reached a personal breakthrough with this one. as i was working on it, i was influenced by the hope that my friend would like the outcome. i was painting something i hoped she might like. then, when i thought i was almost finished with the painting i realized that she did not request my vision of what she might like. she requested one of my paintings. so i painted what wanted.
