the website
so the website is coming along. slowly at best. a few months ago i didn't know the first thing about html, writing code, or anything other than reading and navigating a website. i want to do it all myself and i've enjoyed it so far. it just consumes more time than i have right now. and there's the most important part of an artists site: the gallery. i currently don't have photoshop or any other program that can easily manipulate the photos to a smaller size or a cropping. so if you are waiting to see some photos, i'm waiting to purchase the software! we're in this together now. in the mean time, here's the words, the blog, the dirt. i'm also at a stopping point in the learning of the code. the next big thing will be implementing the css page and i'm currently reading up on that. that will probably happen before the gallery as i think it best to have a nice framework on the home page from which to build the other pages.
cheers!

current projects
i've got 2 projects to work on today. one to finish and the other to start.
1. the past few months i've been working on the cd artwork for the new cd of my boyfriend's band, the wayne fishell experiment. i've been painting portraits of everyone who is working on the cd and the portraits will go on the cover and in the cd liner. all are 12"x12", acrylic, and portrait style. my portrait style that is. some of the paintings look like the person and some don't, some look more like paintings while others look more like caricatures, a few i've had to do several paintings to have a finished product that fits the theme of the cd, and a couple i still need to repaint. oh and i still need a photo of one more person! it's been a fun project and i'm looking forward to seeing my artwork up on itunes!
the cd will be out this fall and if you pre-order it (at varying levels of donation) you can get your name in the cd liner!
2. i'm currently organizing a group show at a local coffee shop, inman perk coffee. i have 4 of the 5 total artists that i need for the show so far. today i went to sam flax to get a canvas for my piece that will be in the show. no i haven't even painted it yet. this is the part of the project that i must begin today. i chose a 15"x60" gallery wrapped canvas (so that i don't have to frame it!) and i plan to hang it vertically. and assuming all goes as planned, it's going to be completely from imagination as i've been needing to break open that part of my brain recently. i've been painting from photos and live models too much lately. stay tuned for more details about this show!

Sze Tsung Leong: History Images
went and saw this photography exhibit at the museum today. i had been there about a week ago on my lunch break and spent too much time in the first two rooms, photos by Taryn Simon. I was totally taken in by her photos and enjoyed them so much that i ran out of time. and then as i was leaving i noticed Sze Tsung Leong's work on my way out. I had to come back! Leong's work details the changing landscape of China's rapidly growing urban areas. I have always had a fascination for foreign lands and geography and these large scale photos really grabbed my attention. history is depicted by old dilapidated structures next to modern monstrocities. old cities being replaced sometimes without a trace. it's both sad and amazing to see. by far, my favorite shots were a trilogy each showing housing under the 3 main chinese era's: emperialism, communism and capitalism. the differences between these buildings are amazing. i'm glad for the growth and current changes undergoing in china but also hope that they don't erase too much of the historical structures.
this is a must see exhibit at the museum until October 1, 2006!
